Gesa Hansen was born in 1981 in the town of Arnsberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, into a family of furniture designers and architects. After studying at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and Nagoya University of Arts, Gesa Hansen worked for various design studios in Tokyo and Paris, which is her home of choice today. In 2009 she followed in the family tradition and founded her own label, “The Hansen Family”, which won two Red Dot Awards and the Chicago Athenaeum’s Good Design Award right off the bat for handmade furniture in Scandinavian design. In 2011, Hansen opened her atelier for Interior Design in Paris.
