Sustainable lighting, sustainable showroom
J. Adams & Co unveils their new lighting showroom in Clerkenwell, London, championing sustainability through innovative design.
Each J. Adams & Co luminaire is a harmonious blend of beauty, clarity, and function. Founded in 2015 by engineer Adam Yeats, the brand melds the traditions of craftsmanship and engineering with a modern sensibility. The result: refined and contemporary lighting that is built to last.
The story of every luminaire begins in London at their design studio, where inspiration comes from light itself: a beam, its genesis, its boundaries. Once the outline is understood, it’s brought to form. The J. Adams factory, operating in the heart of Birmingham’s industrial quarter for more than half a century, turns the studio’s vision into a reality. The two facilities work symbiotically, weaving the abstract into the physical.
“Everything in our design process is interconnected. We’re thinking about the effect and function of the light source from the outset, not just the final form of the piece. We consider every detail to make sure each piece has an honesty and a purpose.” Will Earl, Design Director
Raw materials are sustainably sourced and skilfully crafted to showcase their inherent qualities. When completed, a J. Adams piece reflects both the history of its materials and the longevity of its design.
This spring, J. Adams & Co unveils their new showroom in the heart of Clerkenwell, London. The space invites interior designers, architects, and creatives to experience the intersection of luxury design and environmental practices. Visitors can explore the brand's comprehensive range of luminaires that also underscore the importance of sustainability, durability, and timeless design principles.
Renovating this former cafe into a lighting showroom was a wholly collaborative process, with a focus on local suppliers and a dedication to recycling and reusing materials.
Led by Design Director Will Earl and Sales Director Gerda Zemblyte, the team partnered with Solus, a local tile expert, to repurpose the former tenants’ trademark green tiles into stunning new terrazzo tiles and worktop. These innovative tiles will feature throughout the space, each telling a story of creativity, resourcefulness, and dedication to reducing waste.
"Our goal with the new showroom is not only to showcase our collection of luminaires but also to demonstrate our belief in the power of sustainable design practices. By repurposing materials and embracing innovative techniques, we aim to encourage others to do the same and to prioritise environmental responsibility.” Gerda Zemblyte, Sales Director.
The showroom, set to open its doors in April 2024, is a step forward in the brand's mission to prioritise eco-conscious practices in the design industry.
