Remembering the Forgotten: Crypt Gallery

Remembering the Forgotten: Crypt Gallery

University of Westminster Stand: TB2

The project focuses on improving the lighting in a certain part of The Crypt Gallery, an area suffering from insufficient natural and artificial light, and where, many old memorial stones were accumulated after excavation of the space, each appearing forgotten over time.

Through this technical exploration, the main objective was to discover effective lighting solution that highlights the historical significance of the space, transforming the crypt into a visually engaging area that enhances the visitor's experience while preserving its unique characteristics. Considerable attention was given to the throw dimensions and the vibrancy of colours to achieve an optimal visual impact that complements the architectural features and texture of the aged brickwork.

The vision extends beyond mere illumination; it reimagines the crypt as a space where each headstone contributes to a narrative, each vault speaks of a life once lived. A space where history and the contemporary life meets, fostering a sense of community. Just as those who once found their final resting place there wished, being a part of the community.
