In the initial phase of developing my first prototype, I began by meticulously tracing and measuring the window pattern of the church. Utilizing a laser cutter, I precisely carved out the window openings from MDF (medium-density fiberboard) plates to maintain cost efficiency for Prototype 1. Each of the three laser-cut MDF plates measures 20cm, collectively contributing to a wall thickness of 77cm.
Opting for a scale of 1:20 proved ideal, enabling detailed examination while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing architectural scale.
Transitioning to Prototype 2, I sourced various types of paper, encompassing both Western and Japanese varieties. Crafting blind frames to encase the paper allowed for thorough evaluation of its quality and interaction with natural light. These frames are approximately A4-sized.
Prototype 3 involved the construction of a full-scale paper frame using Pine wood and screws. This life-sized frame was designed for easy disassembly and reassembly, facilitating on-site testing. The prototype's versatility allows for adjustments as needed, ensuring suitability for the intended environment.
