Through material embedding techniques, this project turns lost items from TFL's Lost Property office into functional art.
The process starts by the careful selection of unclaimed objects from the lost property office, followed by creating silicone moulds, ensuring both quality and material exploration such as plaster and concrete. After a series of tests, the furniture was refined to improve its shape and strength. To further explore ways to curate objects, disassembled sunglasses were infused with resin. MDF pieces are cut using a bandsaw and sanded to serve as sturdy foundations for embedded objects. A combination of MDF and resin makes up the legs of this furniture, which are screwed onto the stool with precision dowels and L brackets.
The final prototype is a combination of the successful tests of embedding lost objects in a creative way. The fusion of resin, concrete, and MDF promises exciting possibilities for my upcoming thesis project.
