Catifa Carta 53 and 46
First unveiled at the 2024 Salone del Mobile as a reinterpretation of Catifa 53, Catifa Carta continues to evolve in 2025 with new solutions that further enhance its sustainability profile. The latest addition is a four-leg wooden base, which reduces CO₂ emissions by over 20% compared to the metal version. This base also introduces a new glue-free fastening system, using screw inserts to ensure complete disassembly and responsible disposal at the product’s end of life.
Further expanding the innovation frontier, Arper is developing two concept prototypes: Catifa Carta 46, with a PaperShell shell, and a fully PaperShell base for Catifa Carta 53.
These projects are being advanced in collaboration with Swedish startup PaperShell and with input from the Nco2Factory project, reinforcing the company’s long-term investment in carbon-negative materials.
A new BREATHAIR® cushion has also been introduced—an elastic, breathable, fully recyclable material that has been molded for the first time to perfectly fit Catifa Carta’s shape. It enhances comfort while maintaining visibility of the PaperShell backrest. The upholstery system has been redesigned as well: fully removable covers are now adhesive-free, allowing for easier replacement, greater durability, and enhanced personalization. Softer and more comfortable, the covers come in three finishes—plain, tone-on-tone line stitching, and white or black star-shaped stitching.
Catifa Carta 53 offers a wide variety of base options: four wooden legs (natural or black oak), four metal legs, sled base (available in rust powdercoat finish), trestle base with or without wheels, five-star base. Optional visible metal armrests are available for added support.
Catifa Carta 46 includes configurations with metal or sled bases, and introduces two stool versions with low backrests in counter and bar heights—both with sled bases.
At the heart of Catifa Carta is PaperShell, an innovative material derived from wood byproducts that sequesters CO₂ like natural trees. At the end of its life cycle, PaperShell can be transformed into biochar, a form of vegetal carbon that retains the absorbed CO₂ and acts as a soil enhancer—an innovation that turns the product into a tool for climate regeneration.
With Catifa Carta, Arper sets a new benchmark for sustainable design—blending circular thinking, material innovation, and timeless beauty. As the first furniture brand to use PaperShell, Arper continues to lead with a vision rooted in responsibility and progress.
